Hello Everyone.
I have been interested in the DIY SmartSaw .Which is well advertised , I wouldn't mind looking further into it, maybe buying one ready made, rather than making one up .
Has any one had a go at this ???? and does any one know where they are exhibited some where around the Bedfordshire area , we always took our students to the Birmingham Welding Exhibition and of course BOC Welding in London for welding demonstrations , MMA and Oxy Acetylene in those days before MIG and TIG welding came along .

I know some stuff about cnc, but, after clicking on one rubbish youtube video, i cant be bothered to research what a smartsaw actually is.

Do you have some links to help us out? And some specific questions?

Never heard of the 'Smart Saw', but iirc @MattH does CNC routering etc on wood/MDF etc?

If I'm right, he may be able to give you a steer in the right direction.

DIY smart saw seems to be an annoying way of calling a CNC router something other than a CNC router (no offence intended towards the OP).

Plenty of great information out on the dedicated forums like CNCzone and mycncuk.

The DIY SmartSaw is on google with plenty of ads on how to build it, you are right MattH he has called a cnc router a SmartSaw , building one would be a slow job ,I should think I wondered if any one had seen one in use/owned one/or knows where we can see one being demonstrated around Bedfordshire. From the comments above, it seems that youre talking about a DIY cnc router, but, others have asked you to be more forthcoming with information in the other thread, and ive asked you here also. Im sure i could help with specific questions, but, really, im not going to spend time researching what you're on about to try and help you out.

I mean, if you want to ask "does anyone here know much about moving table diy cnc builds" then you may get more action.

I have three CNC routers, one of which I built myself from scratch and is used daily in production. I am also slowly building another.
Have I seen or used a basic wooden CNC router? No and I have no interest in them. I have built two CNC routers, one for aluminium and the current one from steel.

There are loads of plans for wooden framed routers, look on cnczone and you will find loads of information.

Thank You MattH and julianF for your replies , MattH I have joined the forum MYCNCUK and had a good read of some of the comments and the forum seems very similar to ours with members world wide with a lot of knowledge .
At the moment gents ,to see a wood working machine in action would be great , as I said earlier we took our senior students to the Welding Exhibitions in Birmingham also the Woodworking Exhibitions after retirement ,I loved it .
You must bear with me now as I haven't worked for years but what I do is try to keep up so that I can pass it on to the younger ones. Thank you once again . desmo11225

I can’t imagine any exhibitions with wooden structure machines.
The best exhibition for general wood working CNC machines is the Elements and W show at the Nec which unfortunately for you closed for this year only last Wednesday.

The JGRO designs and similar would be where I start looking.
I can’t imagine you finding one to look at unless to can appeal to someone on one of the forums, but there are thousands of vids on YouTube etc on these published designs.

You will have better luck with something like the XCarve which is a lightweight aluminium kit based design. You might find one somewhere to look at.
