cmax noise from the engine bay

the car we i got it we started half the time i could not tell if the engine was runing even the other halfs dad said how quiet it was

The little lower belt should be air con, big long belt will be water pump and alternator if I remember correctly

The big long belt will be aux drive belt (The grooves go with the 'flow' of the belt). It drives a lot of stuff - any of which if under pressure COULD make the belt squeal.
It looks in good enough condition (No cracks) so shouldn't really be squealing. As you said it sounds more like rumbling than squealing, I'd be thinking of something other than the belt TBH.

Have you had ANY work done on the car recently. Does it make the noise when restarting after warm, or only cold?

Ok - so with nothing else to go on apart from the information on this thread I'd suggest the alternator bearing. No idea how you could check it without taking off the serpentine belt, and giving it a bit of a play. As above, see if you can make it happen by loading the electric draw, to try and determine alternator is the culprit. Maybe the battery is getting tired, so not storing quite so much as usual, thus causing the extra work for the charging system?

the batterywas new 2 years ago and is a lot bigger than it needs as it was bought for a diesel car that in the end was knacked

Use a long srewdriver to touch various bearing housings and rest your ear on the opposite end you will find the noise easily this way

You are better off putting your thumb on the end and in turn sort of push the thumb into your ear, it's more comfortable and blocks out unwanted noise

So with 90,000 on the clock, when was the cam belt last changed !!
If like my daughters previous car 54 reg Fiesta (Ford don't change much of the lay out) When the cam belt is replaced it is recommended to replace all the belts and the cam belt tensioner (there is if I recall a kit less the AC belt) It is also recommended to replace the water pump (which I think might be the cause of your noise) as to do this separately you have to remove the belts which damages them so best done then !
One headache (assuming it is same as Fiesta) is the bottom (crank) pulley and the weird way Ford attach it using a stretch bolt and tapered shaft but no key way so the pulley can slip if not refitted correctly !"" (assuming you can get the thing off in the first place) Guy that had to do daughters car had to tale sump off to lock crank shaft to get it to undo.

Had a similar problem last one I did,

Ended up making a holder for the crank pulley, to lock it whilst undoing crank bolt.

My guess is overrun pulley on alternator causing belt slip.

update forgot to reply and give an ending to this thread belts where done a couple of months ago all noises have stoped i bought them off euro parts when they had the 45 percent off going to fit them myself had them in the car on way to work theres a mechanics place i know the bloke as he comes in my work so stoped to have a quick chat said i was going to do the belts on my day off and any tips he happy gave me a few pointers but also said i could throw them on for you while your at work for £30 so i gave him the key there and then and got on with other jobs off my list of things to do
