clutch hyd question

cant get a good pedal on my hyd clutch

story goes it went soft , i replaced the slave and master , and the hose was no longer avail so had a custom one made , only difference is banjo end vs a m12 style brake nut

im wondering could the banjo be causing a restriction in the hose ...kinda feels like , pedal is slow to return , not getting a huge amount of fluid through it when i bleed it with various methods

Is it still soft after replacing the cylinders ?

I could be, can you drill out the two small holes in the banjo bolt to see if it helps?
Maybe a clutch system moves more fluid that a brake caliper does.

What car is it? Some VW's have a spring arrangement on the clutch pedal which assists the pedal in both directions. If hydraulic pressure is lost, the pedal favours the ground and can stick to the floor needing to be pulled up manually until pressure is regained.

yes its not right ...pedal comes back slow even though its got a spring to it

yeah i guess i could drill it....makes me think its all working but the banjo is a bottle neck

1991 lhd g60 golf...its sprung and will sit up with nothing attached

thinking replicate each metal pipe with brakeline m12 ends ...and find a flexi to fit in the middle?

Ah, ok. A bit too old for the overspring (or whatever VW call it). If you have pipe flaring tools/pipe you could just pipe it up direct temporarily (with no clutch hose) just to see if it will bleed correctly.

what are you thinking the purpose of that coiled part is ? i dont have it at present , just a straight bit

It's usually to stop the pipe fracturing from vibration.

The length or shape of the pipe doesn't matter once all the air is out. So you can choose your own pipe as long as you take into account any chaffing and perhaps vibration in this case. The only exception is that some pipes have a damper installed but the 'lumps' on yours don't look big enough for that to be the case.

so do we see any issues making this from 4.75mm brake line each end ...then find a brake flexi to go in middle?

the orig photo looks about that dia , cant be sure ...would that cause my issue

yeah was my understanding it could be 10 feet long and shaped like mickey mouse it works the same , just start doubting myself as it wont work well lol

I can't see any problem with that. I'd duplicate the coiled part because VW obviously think it's necessary.

Replace the lot with Aeroquip / Russle SS flexi
Have you tried bleeding from the slave to master, some older Peugeot would not bleed top down

well its got an aeroquip on now but a banjo end...thats the only "issue" i can think off

yeah tried it both ways ...syringe up the slave , doesnt seem to flow alot like i said earlier

There's always the odd bad one. I agree with 500e about trying to bleed from all other places. You can try clamping the hose to see what the pedal feels like with the slave cylinder out of the circuit. Only operate the pedal gently by hand in this case!

cant clamp it as its a braided nylon or whatever they are...might pull the slave and block it see if theres air , but there must be as pedal is poop
