clutch case problem, vespa

on my vespa engine, to hold the clutch cover on, it has three m6 bolts. the problem is that the two top female threads in the casing has stripped making oil splash everywhare (even all the way up the street ), id normally just rethread it to the next size but the walls are soo thin and would be likely to crack either with the drill or the bolt tightening, soo... has anyone got any ideas of what to do? studs glued in with araldite? .heres a pic of a vespa engine for the idea- thanks in advance......

If there is enough material try a helicoil, then maybe the next step is to weld the hole up and start again.

The M6 helicoils use a 6.2mm drill so there could well be enough metal left to try it.

Chemical metal, is supposed to be good for things like that i believe.... drill it, tap it..... never actually done it meself though, anyopne tried it?

wyn- dont want to resort to welding it, just built it up today when i noticed so dont want to strip it all down again, and dont really like the idea of drilling it either, coz im likel;y to crack it!, im just looking for the simplest option really

Glue the studs in with the chemical metal, clean the holes out thoroughly first with some brake or carb cleaner. On my old Lambretta I used to use rawlplug and wood screws but in my defence I was only 16 at the time

you could use that aluminium solder stuff, Hts 200 or something like that,you can leave a bolt in the hole while doing it and screww the bolt out when it's cooled to leave the new thread intact, I have used it to repair quite a number of things and had excellent results,Google it and watch a demo.

a wee update, went out this morning and bought some drillable tappable steel putty stuff and some m6 studs, so i got back to the house and set at it. i only realised that another one of the threads was ok on the casing when i screwed the new stud in, it happened to be the old bolt that was ******ed, so, with the origional 1 bolt thread that was fine and the new one that id just found to be ok, that left the last one on the top left , i put a stud in it to see how tight it would be and it was quite loose, and i decided to try and thread it to an m8 size since i wouldent need to re-drill it, all went well ( aluminium cast is really easy to thread, i thought it would be brittle) and now i have a clutch cover with 2 m6 bolts and one m8 bolt and no oil leeks

but..... why didnt i check it fully before going out and buying stuff i didnt need


and, after i took it for its first test drive, there was still oil pouring out of it but this time out of the hub bearing, where the seal has split in the past and some eegit's put araldite over it which clearly hasnt worked

and also- the timings too advanced, the fuel leeks, the carbs studs has a broken thread .... the list goes on , and when i bought it, the listing said "just been fully rebuilt" but however i shall get it all going again.... eventually

If the carb stud with a broken thread is one that holds the carb to the engine/manifold then make sure it isn't sucking in air there or you'll run lean and melt the piston.

its sorted now, i found out that it didnt seal because on the test drive there was no controll in the throttle, it was just full revs constantly, because of the bad seal and fuel getting into it from the leek, so it was key on - key off sort of thing to get back home!
