was kinda resting the 9" @ waste height today and it was running and i sneezed and closed my eyes to open my eyes and find i was pullin the grinder off my leg. cut the jeans cut the boxers only skimed and burned my leg which i must say is sorer than a cut, but i dunno how i didnt cut the b--l0x offf of myself so so close excuse my french. anyone have a close one with a grinder before??

yeah been there done that ,caught the overalls at waist height ,funny thing was i didnt let go of the trigger ! panic stations ! finally let go but skinned my belly ,very sore !

Oh, yes - sounds very familiar!

Recently been renovating a wrought iron gate (separate thread coming soon) and decided to strip the old paint off with a wire brush in a grinder.

Only problem is, I was using my old grinder, without a side handle. A couple of times, the brush caught and launched the whole grinder back at me!

Thankfully, I had the presence of mind to be wearing a full face shield - saved me getting smacked in the face a couple of times.

At one point - on a lower part of the gate - it flew back into my leg; giving me a gentle 'brushing'. Ouch!

Get a set of pin vice to hold your tungstens in while you grind them. I broke the side handle off my 125mm grinder and made one from a piece of flat bar with a hole drilled in it and bent at the end, bolted on with M8.

Not sure if any of you guys know what a surface grinder is ( quick search on ebay will reveal all). Basically its a static wheel head with a reciprocating table. Job goes on the table and goes to and fro to grind the job.

The way we clean the magnetic chucks is by normally wiping a cloth to get major debris out the way then the we use the palm of the hand so you can feel its clean repeat several times until you feel the chuck is clean.

Back in my tool room days one of the guys was carrying out out this process half asleep with the wheel some 8mm from the chuck, running all four fingers under the wheel taking out a nice 1/2 inch wide slot to half the depth of his fingers. First time i ever saw someone turn green with an injury. christ what a mess! Most of us working on precision grinding equip have had a few nips from a wheel, but that was something else!

tigman that reminds me of the health and safety buck from tegasc(farming) in ireland that do the demonstrations, anyway he was pointing out the dangers on the pto shaft next thing he got rapped around it himself, like whats the chances?? he was ok after it

at a building exibition a rep was showing how safe his circular saw was, thowing it up in the air running, then catching it.

once the guard didnt quite close, he lost 4 fingers.

Had a rep demo a fall arrest system by stepping off a ladder, arrestor failed and he fell about a metre and ended crumpled on the floor, luckily only his pride was hurt.
We did not buy any!

I was at the local exhaust joint about 9 months ago. Waiting for the fab guy that owed me some money for some turbo's.

Watching him cut 2x 2" pipes side by side under this Pontiac Trans Am on a hoist. He was using a 9". All of a sudden he grabbed his face and hit the deck.

I thought he got a spark in his face or something. Then i saw all the blood pooling on the ground. Then grinder had grabbed on the pipe, swund back and run down his face.

Luckily he was wearing safety glasses as they had a massive gouge out of them. But left a deep, 1/4" wide cut from below where the safety glasses sit to his lower lip.

If it wasnt for the safety glasses he would have lost his eye. Still absolutely wreaked havoc on his nerves tho, had to quit work and all.
