cleaning turbo's

turbo on my uncles megane is full of crud oily gunk i can scrape it out with finger.
want's it cleaning, what is best way?
have put heads and other bits in big pan containing washing powder and water then heated it up and had lovely clean stuff after.
then washed off with clean water.
can i do same with turbo?

I'd use degreaser/brake cleaner.

Mr Muscle cooker cleaner. The foaming type.

You would be well advised to plug the oil holes.

Are you doing it on the vehicle or is it off for cleaning?

on would be easir but can take it off.

If you're doing it on the vehicle, I'd personally just scrape what you can off, (use something softer than the metal of the turbo housing as a scraper), vacuum it to get any crap out and then give what you can reach with your finger a wipe with solvent on a rag. I wouldn't be spraying owt in there though. It's going to get acked up again in use, so just clear off the excess and call it a day. That's just my opinion though.

if its the 1.9 dci, in the megane you may want to google these little sweetheart engines with ref to them likeing to self destruct though running on its own oil, may save you a lot of headache after

Any turbo diesel will run on engine oil following a snapped spindle on the air side.

Cleaning me? It can't be that time of year already? Ok you can do it but I'm not changing my undies. I've just turned these ones inside out so I've another 6 months to go before they're due for changing.
