Cleaning that spray gun!

Hi,

I have an air operated spray gun (the average £30-£50) and when it comes to cleaning it, it takes a massive amount of white spirit to clean! I have used half of a £6 carton and was wondering is there a cheaper alternative to white spirit? Thanks in advance

Exactly the reason i dont mind using emulsion, waters in abundance.
Look forward to alternatives for other paints.

Thanks, where would you get this at that sort of price? I've tried boo & qoo but their prices are still pretty high!

Gun wash. Try a propper paint suppliers - 20 quid for 25 litres

just get it from autojumbles or someone on here will tell u where to get local at the right price

Gun wash is just recycled thinners, sometimes a small amount of sediment in the bottom of the container, but virtually pure thinners. We use it for thinning primer in emergencies

bung all your leftover car paints and used thinners in a jam jar and leave it for a week or so and it will seperate.this will give you thinners at the top and paint at the bottom.

It cost me £25 for 25 litres of solvent from a trade paint supplier, good for gun wash and thinning cellulose paint . That's good to know about keeping the used thinners and letting it separate though.

Everyone probably already knows this but: for mixing and thinning disposable paper cups are so much easier than rinsing out mixing jugs.

Cleaning the gun I empty the paint out of the cup (gravity gun), put some thinners in it and wipe it out with a paper towel then put a bit more thinners in and blow it through till it shows no colour. Then if I feel like it's time for a good clean up I put some thinners in a container and clean the parts with a brush and tissues. This never uses more than a cupful of thinners altogether, I buy mine in 5 litres for about £5 from local car spares.
