Clarke Turbo Weld 100EN

Hi Everyone,

I have a turbo weld 100en which I loaned to someone a while ago, when they returned it they said it had been welding fine and then suddenly stopped working (this was all the info I got from them). I put it to one side with the intention of looking at it soon and of course it's only now I need it that I'm having a look.

The problem I have is no arc between the wire and the steel I'm trying to weld.
Everything else seems to be working correctly; Power, wire feed, relay opening, cooling fan spinning.
I've looked at the other threads on this forum for the 100en and have checked the diodes on the rectifier and they seem ok.

Any suggestions as to where I should go next with my multimeter? There are no signs of any component or track damage on the PCB.

Welcome to the forum.

Have you checked the connections where the torch cable and work return cable are bolted to? they can work loose and "arc up", unbolt to check.
Then test for continuity between the bolted connection and the tip on the torch, also test work return (earth clamp) cable for continuity.
If the above are OK put the meter (on volts) across the tip and earth clamp with the trigger pulled - slacken wire feed roller to save wasting wire!

Continuity checks out ok on both the torch tip and the earth clamp.

The voltage between the tip and earth clamp for the different power settings are as follows (polarity set for no gas welding)

1 / Min -17.5V
2 / Min -19.7V
1 / Max -22.0V
2 / Max -25.4V
