hi is there much difference in build quality between the two colors in the Clarke range ?

When I went to get one the guys at machine mart said the red ones keep coming back so I got a blue one

I always thought the red were gas only and the blue were gas/gasless.

have the new clarke catalogue.you really need to see the whole lineup before you decide red or blue.
youd have some blues over red,and vice versa

The machine mart guys said the red ones are made in China and they were having real problems with them. My original plan was to get a red one and convert it to gas but I was warned off them

The newer 145, 152, 180 and 196 red ones are Chinese but I'm certain the rest are made in Italy, as are the blue ones.

As Wozzaaah says, it's the newer ones that are Chinese. I have a red 160en gas/gasless that I think is great, never had a problem with it at all.
