Hi All,
I'm a bit new to welding probably compared to most here but I have just picked up this 250amp giant as my little Clarke 130EN was struggling a little with some things that I was trying to stick together.
Here's the new link, https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cl-weld-mig255tec/ , picked up mine for MUCH less.
However, it appears that the torch is woefully underrated for the machine and the earth clamp is also. It's got an MB15 torch and a ground wire that is 25mm2 into a 10-25 Dinse plug. I thought that was all a bit weird, so I checked with Machine Mart if that was the standard kit, in case someone put the wrong stuff on there as I got it used, and they confirmed that is standard. This might explain how the nozzle shroud was deformed - due to heat, not mechanical forces. MB15 is what I have on my 130.
From what I have read here, I need at least an MB36 torch to handle the power of this machine when using mixed gas (I've got both 95/5 and 85/15).
Ground cable wise, I have found it more difficult as different welding shops give different ratings on the cables. Some say my 25mm is OK, other suggest that I need a 50mm with the 35-50 Dinse - which means trying to change out the socket on the panel of the welder also.
Like I said, I am not experienced in MIG and so I would appreciate any advice from people who know more than I
Thanks in advance.
