Clarke MIG151EN Wire Feed

I have been given a Clarke MIG151EN and intend to learn how to weld with it. When I first turned it on I noticed the wire feed was jerky and didn't feed wire each time it was pressed.

I stupidly loosened the spool too much and all the wire came off so I loaded it up with some new flux core wire. I made sure it was on the bigger roller thread and adjusted the spool and wire tension but still have the same issues.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this?

Strip the wire feed apart, the grease goes thick in the gears, clean it off & regrease it. Also is it the wire feed or the liner, remove the tip, take the tension off the roller on the feed motor & try pulling the wire from the torch end. Any more than a slight resistance means the liner is shot.

Thanks mate, must be the liner as I wasn't able pull it through with the roller tension off. It only moved when pulled with pliers

Make sure the spool tension isn’t to tight also - I think your version has the newer style off motor on them - the knurl roller seems to wear quick - as mentioned the liner if you got a airline blow that down it and see if it clears
Tip size is important with flux - I find the 1mm tip works better as the knurl seems to squash the wire slightly .

Sounds like you’ve found your problem, first thing on feed problems, check the liner, don’t use rusty wire. Curtain wire is the same size as the liner & is a cheap replacement, I’ve never used it, but a lot have & it’s fine.

I got the clarke wire from machine mart which was the same as what was in there before. The issue seems even worse now as I wasn't able to get the wire fed through to the tip it pulled the spool smoothly with the occasional jerk then just stopped all together
