Hello everyone.
I've just purchased a Clarke MIG 155T Turbo mig welder to do some repairs to my Morris Minor, and would appreciate a little bit of advice
.
Firstly is this machine any good? I bought it because it's a Clarke (who appear to be well regarded?), it has 6 power settings and was nearby.
I would appear to need a gas regulator, as there isn't one on the gas pipe coming out of the back of the welder. I was thinking of getting one for the small disposable bottles, but does anyone have any advice as to whether this is a good idea? The little bottles do seem jolly expensive for what they are, but then I don't have room for a huge cylinder from BOC or similar. What options do I have?
The metal shroud of the torch looks pretty mangled and a bit rusty - do I need to replace it? Is there any way of telling if the torch liner is OK? When you squeeze the trigger the wire feed seems pretty smooth, although I haven't tried welding with it yet.
My local ironmonger has an offer on Sealey wire. Is it any good, and should I go for 0.6 or 0.8mm?
The machine is missing the door that covers the wire reel and feed mechanism. I presume that although not ideal, this isn't a massive safety risk?
Many thanks!
