Hi everyone,
I am new to welding and have previously been on a 1 day welding course some time ago, however the basics have stayed with me and I understand when a weld looks good etc.
That said, 1st and foremost I have some questions about my machine which is stated in the titleabove. The reason for buying this machine is I was advised it can handle thin metal (when using gas option, therefore I am using the machine on the gas option and have purchased SIP Gas Regulator & SIP Welding Gas C02 Argon Mixture.
At 1st my welds were ok, however as the weekend progressed then my welding went downhill a bit. I did play around with the settings a little.
I am now finding that as I weld two distinctive occurrences are happening.
1 there is a white looking substance around the welds
2 I am having a tendency to "blow through" the metal which is 18 guage.
3 I dont have a clue about how much I should be setting the gas release (as on the regulator its on a + or - sign.
4 I dont have a clue about how much gas is being used or even when its finished in the bottle (which is a very small bottle).
Can anyone who has the same welder or experience in regards to my questions are.
My ultimate goal is to eventually weld my MGB Roadster which i am restoring.
I am also trying to fix rust on my sons Mazda 5 which has rust in the boot and the metal is VERY thin indeed.
Regards
