So this is what I did to mod my Clarke metal bender.
Removed the nuts on the top clamp, ground back and elongated the holes to give some adjustment in the clamp. The clamp can now be brought forward flush with the front face of the bender.
Then I welded 2 new nuts underneath to take the clamp bolts so the clamps now work from above.
Then I made cutouts to clear the clamp levers so I keep the full range of bends.
No taking it back now but for what I will be using if for it should be fine. It seems to works much better and is easier to use with the clamps upward.
