Clarke Engine Crane CFC1000 Replacement Swivel Castor

A friends Clarke CFC1000 1 ton engine crane has a broken swivel castor.
Looking for replacement swivel castors, he contacted Machine Mart,
who replied that "Clarke no longer make parts for the CFC1000. We’ve none of the castors in stock, and there are no alternative replacements."
Fair enough, the crane is maybe ten years old.

What weight rating do the castors need to be ?
There are two wheels and two castors, so by my guess work each of the castors needs to be able to take over 250kg.
How much more than 250KG ?
baring in mind that sometimes the load can be uneven across the four wheels/castors as the crane is moved across a concrete floor.

Would 320kg max rated be sufficient?

I seem to remember that three out of the four castors together should be rated to take the total load, and in the case of a crane that is the load rating plus the weight of the crane itself. So the weight of the crane plus 1000kg divided by three.

So, 1000kg plus 100kg (guesstimate of crane weight )divided by three gives 367kg per wheel/castor

also think most of the weight is on the front fixed wheels not the back swivels ones

He is going to try Clarke direct to see if they have any parts.

When moving my similar engine crane on a concrete driveway, it sometimes has a wheel/castor off the ground,
so HarveyP6's comment makes sense to my mind.

That is machine mart standard reply.

Go direct to Clarke.

They will advise what is available, what is suitable.

At MIS we get this a lot of he time.

In January 2025, we got new coasters for engine crane 3 MM said no parts.

Clarke did no have like for like, but sold us suitable replacements.
