Hi, new to this forum so just hoping i picked the right part of forum for this question ,I recently aquired this Oldish Clarke CDP301-B drill press which i was assured it was unused but quite rusty, i switched it on but did not try to drill anything.Anyway cleaned it painted and looks good but when i tried running it so i could clean the chuck i found the slightest pressure stopped it turning and after looking up parts catologue i realised the pulley nut is missing from spindle. Tried to get one from Clarkes but no longer sell parts for this machine as quite old and couldnt tell me size either .So if anyone could help me getting the correct thread size nut for this would be gratefull thanks

Probably M18x1.5 or M20x1.5 but you need to measure the pitch and get a more accurate measurement of the OD, maybe turn on your calipers and measure a little closer to the centre of the jaws as you appear to the measuring partially in the relieved part. You can measure as many threads as you can, eg. measure 5 threads and divide by 5 to get a more accurate measurement, use a thread pitch gauge or a known pitch bolt to compare, standard m10 is 1.5mm thread pitch.

The pulley locates on the shaft with a taper, so remove the pulley and measure the threads properly, by switching on the calipers, ensuring they read zero when closed and then applying the main part (not the relieved inner part) of the jaws to the thread. Take the photogrph quickly before the caliper battery runs out and the display goes off.
A thread pitch gauge from Amazon, for £6.99 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stainless-Thread-Imperial-Cutting-Measuring/dp/B0F13PWVZD) will allow you to identify the pitch.

yes i have parts manual but it only gives a part number for nut and contacted clarkes and they have no idea as to size etc will check on identifying pitch Thanks

if the pulley comes offjust take it down to the nut and bolt supplys. we have teeside fasteners they just match em up for us

Please look at the exploded diagram in the manual. The nut is part number 2 on page 20.
Taking a pulley (part number 3, page 20) to someone will not help in identifying a thread.
The part the nut n' bolt supplier needs to see is the shaft onto which the pulley fits (part number 4 page 20). In principle, it could be removed from the machine, but is not a five minute job.

it was you in post 3 that said the pulleys is on a taper and take it off
if so i said take it in not just the part number and they will identify the thread Agroshield

Please study the manual. The exploded diagram shows how the machine is constructed and which part has a thread on it.
The photo in the original post shows that there is insufficient thread projecting from the shaft in order to assess the thread pitch.
Removing the pulley exposes more of the thread on the shaft allowing the pitch to be measured.
