Clarke Bandsaw Motor Problem

Whilst using my Clarke bandsaw at the weekend and it tripped the electrics out. I have checked all the wiring and there does not appear to be any problems there.

I have checked continuity via the pos and neg connections on the motor as well as zero resistance.

Am i right in thinking that the motor is kaput?

Did it trip the RCD (earth fault) or an MCB (Over-current fault)?

It tripped the houses main rcd.

It sounds like you have a short to earth. Check the resistance between the power connections on the plug and the earth. You will need to hold the start button on.

Have you actually tried it again since, (after checking for obvious shorts)? I have one motor here which is the most recalcitrant, awkward beggar there is for tripping the main circuit when it feels like it, especially at switch on. I'll get around to looking at that thing one day.

My clarke quite often trips out the electrics.

What happens is little bits of metal end up in the safety switch under the blade cover, it gets in there every time the arm is raised.

I usually give the switch a blast with compressed air which sorts it out.

Its a CBS45MB

it was in the vertical position when in use so I will check the plug for resistance and the switch as well.

I owe you a pint Sir!! the switch was covered in metal bits so cleaned it off and its working again and no tripping electrics!!!

what about stretching a balloon over the switch or a durex !!! might sound daft but ive seen plenty of things with balloons and durex put over
them to keep out dirt and moisture and gunge.
failing that what about making a little cover and sealing it with silicone sealant ?
any short could be dangerous, so I would be looking for a deterrent against it happening again.

I have signed up to this forum especially just to say I bloody love you haha. FOUR HOURS I was, trying to figure out the problem, and I had already tried giving it a clean with a brush. Got the air gun out and BOOM! Back of the net. Thank you!
