Hello!
Recently gifted a Clarke mig 90 pro with a few issues - as welding is something I've always wanted to learn, I have gratefully accepted the challenge!
After a quick clean, i found the issue to be a dodgy trigger on the torch and some rusty welding wire stuck inside - all working nicely!
However, the earth wire is a bit of a mess, and the torch trigger is a bit glitchy - and the outer plastic conduit on the torch lead is damaged in a few places.
I'm looking at upgrading the earth to a 25mm cable and a 400A decent earth clamp, and fitting a Dinze socket instead. For the torch, I was just going to replace the outer conduit, but i can't find it sold anywhere. Therefore It seems the best option is replace the whole thing - and if i'm going to do that I'm thinking it would be better to convert to a Euro spec torch instead.
Looking round there seems to be a lot of chat about the updating the earth, but not much about the torch!
Firstly, is it possible to buy just the outer jacket/conduit for the torch lead or is that idea a non-starter?
If I can't do that, can anyone recommend a cheap but decent option for a 3m euro torch assembly? Has anyone completed this mod on a 90 successfully and have any images or details of the chassis socket and gas solenoid they used? I've seen a few options, but it looks like some sockets can be cut down and some cant for the wire feed. also i've seen a few questions regarding the solenoid voltage - should it be a 230v and fed off J1/J2 on the control board?
Finally, with the earth cable, are my thoughts going to be ok? is 25mm cable overkill or will 16mm do? any recommendations for source/brand of cable and connectors? would prefer to avoid buying some cheap chinese stuff that will break!
Thanks in advance of what i'm sure will be many more questions
