Clarke 90 Pro > Abicor Binzel MB 15 Grip

Hi (complete newbie to welding),

First post after my intro post - wasn't exactly sure where to start with this one.

I've got a modified Pro 90 with a 4m Abicor Binzel MB 15 Grip torch on it. Should I use an AB metal liner, AB part number 124.0012, or will a cheaper item work too?

Just wondering if the AB liner will fit into the 90 OK, and vice versa, will any alternative liner fit in to the torch?

And another question if I may - I want to use the 90 gasless, exclusively. I've got myself a 0.5 Kg reel of Lincoln Electric Innershield NR 211 MP in order to weld 2mm car panels.

Searches have shown that some have used the 90 Pro without reversing the polarity - how would I do this if I need to?

Has it got a euroconnector or has the torch been modified and wired directly into the welder?

Why not try it with the present polarity first, and see how you get on? Some wires handle reversed polarity better than others. You will need a 0.9 mm tip if using 0.8 mm gasless wire, the smallest size available. Also check your wire feed rollers are set in the biggest groove to handle the larger diameter gasless wire. Gasless migs use knurled rollers so really you should swop in one of these if you intend to mostly use it gasless, long-term. Standard gas wire rollers can slip on gasless wire, leading to feeding problems.

I've never tried converting a dedicated gas wire welder to a dedicated gasless wire welder, but the raw basics are that the torch power connection and the earth clamp connection are swapped over. However, there may be more to it than just that, depending on the circuitry inside. Usually the gas/nogas welders are wired a bit differently to the gas only ones.
You will need more technical help on this if you are really keen to do it. Personally I just got a m/c that uses both types of wire as required.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Going to take your advice on the knurled roller, the feed was actually juddering and slipping when I've loaded the new reel in. Definitely won't hurt to try a new one and not expensive.
