Clarke 90 mig transformer replacement - need some help please!

Bought a hobby 90 from ebay but when i unpacked it was clear that the damn courier had dropped it, and after further investigations found the transformer had broke off.

I've got a new one but just need someone to check my wiring cos im not really 100%. I've drawn on the pic below how i plan to wire it up.

I take it the replacement isn't the same configuration as the original, else you could just copy that?

Looking at your links on the transformer from 0 - 24 x 2, that looks wrong as you are putting a short across the two output windings. I would connect 0 to 0 and 24 to 24 this will parallel the two output windings and then join the 0 and the 24 to the PCB as you show.

Hi Alec,

Yes I bought the transformer from RS components, even though the old one was attached in a pattern (top 2 close and bottom 2 on outer points) there aren't any markings to show what v is what.

I've redone the pic to how you said, I actually made a mistake on the first one on the 230v that should go to the far right on the board, doesnt matter.

but my only question is would it matter if the 0 vs 24v and 0 vs 230v were the wrong way around on the board? if you see what i mean.

Hello Jonnybox,

no, the polarity is irrelevant with A.C. in this instance. (It only matters with switches so that the neutral is not switched) In actual fact there is no 0 - 240 or 0 - 24, merely a voltage between the two terminals of 240 or 24 respectively.

I sort of understand you lol. All sorted now, put a new wire feed motor on it as well and it all works good as new.

Not too impressed with the £8.00 postage clarkeservice.co.uk charged me for the motor, thought that was a bit much as it probably weighs only 100 grams!
