Clarke 160TM

hey guys, posted on here a while back about this, Im after a welder to complete my car resto, the car needs a lot of work so im going to be spending a lot of time welding, so I decided against the disposable bottles and am going to get one of the BOC refillable bottles, I have been looking at the Weldequip store on here and they have a Clarke 160TM which seems to be what im looking for, just want someone to confirm that this welder is up to what im going to be using it for, and also is the 5kg 0.6mm wire the right one for body panels, thank you for your help

Its a good machine for car work and you are looking at a good supplier who can be trusted.

Wire is correct too.

Check locally for gas before going to BOC, I got mine from a Calor Gas supplier on the industrial estate with a massive saving, BOC no longer rules the gas market.

Bought the Clarke 160TM on Sunday and it doesn't take 5kg spools, only the 14kg ones.

Have not yet used it, but am looking forward to doing so.

Hi 160tm is a cracking machine for the money restored 2 minis over the last couple of years the first with an old Sip, the second with the clarke and the difference is night and day. 5kg 0.6 wire no problems and refillable co2/argon, as said try other gas suppliers as there are some better deals about than _OC. As a side note a decent auto helmet makes a world of difference.

MachineMart it would appear are having almost monthly VAT free days. Keep an eye out as you can pick up one with a nice 20% discount

Hehe, not the first time they'll have given out duff information I doubt.
The 160 takes 5 and 15kg reels but not the little 0.8kg ones.
If you find you're not using yours too often it may be worth taking the wore out and bagging it up so it doesn't rust, a 15kg reel will take the average diyer a fair old while to get through.

Was thinking of doing something like that, to try and keep it rust free when not in use.

Will be in use quite a lot over the next two weeks - a fair amount of welding to be done on my Disco.
