I do need a new liner, as the wire just keeps getting stuck (somewhere near the tip).

As saw you can get the steel liners, does anyone know if the welder i have can use this kind, or best using the plastic kind?

When i brought the welder the torch tubing has got electrical tap (i have not taken it off to have a better look though).

Should i be looking out for certain things.

The guy who came round to teach me how to use it, did say that he thought the gas kept stopping and starting, and that i may has a leak somewhere.

Any advice would be appreciated to get be back up and running so i can keep welding, as i really enjoyed it.

It can help to remove the contact tip when feeding wire, though a new liner every couple of years is a good idea. My preference is to use steel liners for steel wire (less resistance than plastic liners and longer lasting). Weldequip should be able to sell a torch service kit that also includes the swan neck liner. Send him a PM for those.

Post some pics of the torch - I'm not sure which tapping you mean. The power cable for the torch will screw in to a brass block in the torch often using the liner screw.

Don't know why the gas would start and stop. Do you have the type of torch with the gas valve inside? The trigger needs to be pressed fully on those to operate the valve.

The liner does not go all the way to the tip on the Clarke's, there is a spring in the swan neck that will get clogged up with plastic from the liner.

I would get a steel liner and a new swan neck spring.

Also remove the tip when feeding new wire, it will usually not go through the tip easily.
