Clarke 160 TM help!

Bought a clarke 160 TM the other night at a bargain price of £125.00 and it brand new. I am new to welding but as I ownan MG midget it makes sense I learn! A couple of questions...

1) What wire would you recomend for car work such as floors ans sills etc
2) Does anyone no any where cheap in Leeds to buy or rent gas?

I would use 0.6mm for car bodywork/chassis repairs. Thicker wire is better for thicker metal.

Again 0.6 wire and try BOC with the volkszone offer for agron mix, reference the gas section

I used to use energas at bradford when i lived over at Leeds. You pick the bottles up from a plant hire firm on the ring road up at wortley.

They do any gas you want not dirt cheap but 'hey ho' decent gas from a decent supplier isnt.

I think it was something like £60 rental a year for the bottles(fiver a month not too bad) and £26 a fill up for the middle size(waist high)bottle of there argon mix(i found this excellent stuff).

oh and by the way before you ring around the other suppliers in and around Leeds(like i did) these were the cheapest. Air products when i rang them nearly made me want to sell my mig lol

This guy had me up and running in 20 minutes from the time i rang him and i didnt even pay him until a week later when he pops round and sorts out the direct debit.....simples.

Thanks for all your advice I will give them a ring and see if I cant be up and running this weekend as have lot of old car panels to practice on until I go near my MG!

Does anyone know a good source for welding wire? Also how many m does each spool corrispond to ie a 15kg spool?

Just out of curiosity did you get the 160tm from an advert on the preloved website? I had my eye on one in the leeds area but didnt get around to following it up.

I did yes paid £125 for it and its brand new, just need some wire and gas and to learn how to weld now!

I think the EN ones are gas and gasless
