The torch on my 150en is a bit past it's best. Not all the screws that hold the sides together grip any more, the gas liner probably wants changing, it needs a new shroud, the outer sleeve has pulled out of the welder, and it's too short.
I was asking about porosity the other day and I plan on going over the valve block etc and changing the gas liner.
I'm wondering though if I may as well just replace the lot as it's all a bit tired.
Price wise, a new 150en torch, or a euro conversion are about the same. A new clarke torch though doesn't solve the length issue. Welder normally lives under the bench so a longer umbilical would be really handy.
That leaves converting it to Euro, but I like being able to flood some gas before welding.
So that leaves me with buying a new liner (I have new metal and teflon but they are both already cut to fit the clarke torch), cables, outer etc and making a new, longer, fixed umbilical.
I'd still need a new handle body though, although I could probably fix the stripped threads (this welder has suffered alot of neglect at various hands!).
That puts me back to Euro, but using a solenoid I can't pre flood with gas.
Or can I?
Anyway to make a euro torch trigger 2 stage? So it will fire the solenoid before the feed motor?
I could probably find a way, just wondered if there was an easy way before I try rigging up switches/buttons etc.
I guess I could try and find a second hand torch from someone who has converted to Euro, then just make the longer umbilical.
Conscious of costs though, this welder is not a great example of the bread, so can only go so far before I sack it off and but a new r tech or something.
I don't weld that much these days though so trying to let the old clarke limp on.
