Clarke 150 te

Hi,

I've worked with a fabricator making gates etc when I was in my mid - late teens and have now decided its something I'd like to do.

I want to make gates, driveway and small side gates etc.

I was given a Clarke 150te. Would this be sufficient to weld 16mm round bar to a 30x30 box section?

It would probably put some sort of a weld on that, but if you were looking at doing this type of work a lot, get something bigger. I think you'd end up frying that machine.

What do you recommend. I will be using my own garage do only have a single phase supply.

Depends on your budget I suppose. The 1ph shouldn't be a major problem. You may have to up the rating on a dedicated socket for your welder. Weldequip (top of page) do the portamig units which are highly regarded and its down to the budget then.
I can only go by what I would do if in your situation and that would be to get the best I could afford. You could always shift the 150TE on.

A 200amp ish machine with a decent duty cycle would be my choice.
