clarke 150 EN gas no gas welding

i have a Clarke 150EN welder its very good and i have been welding for almost 1 year (perhaps a little to big for a beginner) but I'm going OK with it i am currently welding a ford escort 1994 the part i am welding is the rear chassis rail i am using flux cored welding wire 0.9mm to save on cost! the problem i have is the fact that when I'm welding i find that the metal just spits back and when i grind the weld smooth there are pin holes in the weld what can i do with this?also i find that steel from later cars is not as good as steel from earlier cars :/

A few questions:

1. You did swap the polarity to torch -

2. Are you using a good brand of welding wire? I Used the Clarke stuff that came with mine and it was not very good.

hi,i buy my welding wire from machine mart it is reasanbly priced but given my lack of experience i did not realise the brand mattered so much. could you point me in the right direction as to what brands to go for?
