I have just welded my fork brackets on my lambretta with my new (above). I wasnt impressed with my weld pools compared to what i obtained during a few hours at a college. Ok i know its going to be ok but its taken me a fair while and it kept looking bubbly and rusty as opposed what its supposed to look like. Trials have gone from thinnish lines to balls bouncing everywhere. I was welding 3mm to 2.5 mild steel with .6 reel, argon/co2 disposable. Settings: wire speed 7, 8 seemed to high, any lower and it wasnt making a pool. I was at 70deg angle and going zig-zag at a slowish speed. I had cleaned all the metals, even used that anti splatter spray to no avail. Was about 6 - 8mm from the end of the shroud. At full power on both settings according to manual.
What could i be doing wrong, why the rusty looking welds when i am using 86:14 co2:argon mix.
