Clarke 135TE probs, Power '1' and now '2' not working blowing fuses

Hiya, Just joined up finally. I've been prompted to take on my rusty Cortina mk5 head on by a mate...

My first prob is that the welder has broke. (after an unlucky day) It was the number 1 power setting. It stopped sparking and just melted wire to a pig tail then Blew fuse after a few reattempts.

After that (a few weeks later) I replaced fuse, and notice no 1 wasn't right so used no2 with reasonable results.

But then no 2 did same thing, stopped sparking and when pushed a few more times it fused one of my extension power leads!

So is it the switch that needs fixing/replacing or something this school boy is missing?

I would say it's a supply problem. Are you using loads of leads, or flimsy cables / coiled up extensions?
I'd say anything more than 20ft you're asking for trouble on a little welder.

Thanks, thats an interesting suggestion. Could be an issue.

It was OK for ages though, and my mates gassless one was too. I'm going to try it at home now it's there and see what happens...

Plug it straight into the socket, and get a nice clean bit of metal on the dining room table and try it!
