Hello all. I am posting this to see if anybody has had this problem, also for anyone who may get this problem in the future.
I bought a secondhand clarke 130en welder of ebay hardly used at all. I think one reason for this is it had a poor wire feed which was sticking and erratic. The thing is new and only burned about 1/4 of the original fluxcore wire.
Long story short it's not the roller tension, liner which is wire wound but the spool that sticks.
As soon as the nut is tightened at all the plastic spool starts to stick and grab putting up a lot of resisting force for the rollers.
The welder works perfect with the nut totally slack but I would like a little play between totally loose and locking up. Any ideas?
I thought maybe a washer or something to reduce the resistance. Also for anyone having wire feed problems this is another thing worth checking as it's not immediately obvious but gives symptoms similar to a sticking wire feed.
The spool sits fine on the machine side spindle and with some pressure resists as you would expect. As soon as the nut side is introduced it goes from free turning to locking up and very little in between.
Nothing appears to be wrong with it, all is smooth and I removed the sticky label from the spool.
I have it set up with 0.6mm wire with gas and it works a treat other than having a touchy spool clamp mechanism.
doug.
