Clarke 100E

I was considering buying a clarke 100E, http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/100e-mig-welder

would be using the welder for general welding DIY and being creative, I do not have any plans to undertake body work welding, just make a few things for the garden.


is the clarke 100E any good? who would I be able to rent a large gas bottle from?


would be grateful for any advice.

For general welding as you suggest I personally think you will find it has limitations, a 150amp would be a much better buy, giving you that bit of extra power I am sure you would end up wishing you had with the 100E.

Check the gas supplier list on this forum or search locally for an independant supplier, probably Co2 (pub gas) would do you for what you intend, easier to find and cheap to rent and refill.

Clarke welder

thanks for this? for 150amp would I need a 16amp fuse? My garage is on an RCD which is really sensative so I am not sure I would get away with only using the lowers Amps

They advertise the 150 can be run on a 13amp fuse, however if you have a 'sensative' RCD then who knows?

At worst it should work on 90% of it's power using 13amp, still giving you a fair bit more than the 100 machine.
