gentlemen,

just a question what type of clamps do you all use for welding

is this the entire range of conventional clamps or are there others to consider, don't think much of those C or G clamps as we call them in Ireland

Carver clamps are good.

I don't think much of the prices either, I use an assortment of what I managed to get...most of mine came from car boot sales and I rarely paid more than £3 for a good clamp...which if I am right is about 3.6 euros.
I also once made 2 heavy duty clamps from some square profile steel, big nuts and screwed bar for a special job, they worked really well and I always intended to make some more..then I loaned them out and then they were gone ...

Varies, but generally, the best are Carver clamps, have a few Piher clamps, which are standing the test of time well too.
Depends what you are doing realy, the average hobby welder probably doesn't need carver clamps.
They are expensive.

The Piher F clamps are pretty heavy duty, i have some from the 'R' type. They are reasonably priced too.

I've got 4 twelve inch Carvers and a couple of ten inch Olympic G clamps for lighter stuff. But the Carver stuff is the daddy - it is the sort of kit that you will be able to pass onto your grand kids, but it does come at a premium price.

Hi All,
Overall Carver clamps easily come top,plus the fact that they are reversible for spreading as opposed to clamping,and are almost unbreakable.However,sliding deep clamps without a rack are more useful for light swift work.Personally I don't do 'swift' or 'quick' very often as a matter of principle!

Another vote for Carvers. We have them from 150mm up to 750mm. Never broken one yet, take some beating.
Quite a number of Bessey F clamps for lighter work. Still expensive mind.
I don't get on with cheap G clamps, they either snap or tip over on their sides as you tighten them because the body has deformed.

I was given some cheap G clamps, it looks like the castings had been moved before they had been allowed to cool, they were all bent. The foot wasn't perpendicular to the spine, and the screw wasn't parallel with the spine either.

I use cheapie Chinese made screw type 'C' clamps from the local discount tool store.. I have a variety of sizes.. I'd invest in a quality set, but I always wind up welding them to my work (Well, not always, but I have done it).

Cheap Mole type clamps and G clamps along with Clecos and anything that will do the job. I find the moles handy as you can weld bits to the jaws, the heat always gets to them so they deform anyway.
