As much as I like having a clamp meter, for your purpose you'd be better off saving the money. You just need to adjust the welder based on what is happening. That looks like a cheap welder so maybe that's your issue depending on what you are welding.

The King's English! It's a collection of words and (sort of) grammar accumulated over 2000+ years from countries and civilizations around the world mashed together then sprinkled with grammar rules made up by bored Victorians.
It's a massive linguistic mongrel.

You could argue the same about wattage and voltage. Technically incorrect, but everybody knows exactly what they mean.
But the thing is language adapts and evolves with use(age). If it is used enough it becomes part of the lexicon.

Also a lot of the words used in the USA are actually words lost from use In England, likewise the accent.
"Received pronunciation" ruined a lot of the true local dialects in this country, something that did not happen to the same extent across the pond.

My physics teacher gave me a red-pen scolding for using ‘amperage’. As with most such arguments (which I enjoy sparking up ), it’s often a matter of what sounds right to you.

Language evolves, yes, but that implies some words are pruned away, which is presumably why we don’t talk of the ‘Ohmage’ of a resistor, or the ‘Farage’ of a capacitor

what rods are you using? that can make the difference between garbage uphill welds and acceptable ones!
cheap 6013 can be just about impossible, try 7016/8, quite different to weld with over 6013, but does out of position much easier i find!

current is measured in amperes abbreviated as amps was taught that at college 54 years ago

7016/8 best on DC not on cheap buzzbox. Decent 6013 should be ok....
