CK10 25mm connector

Hiya all,

All is going well so far. 2mm ally seems to do ok. Just need to practice power control with speed of welding.

I would like to know the following:

Why would a tig torch have a CK10-25mm connector that could fit into the socket for the table clamp?

I haven't done it as I can't see how it would weld like that. But your advice as to the use of one would be great.

I didn't know a table clamp had a socket??? Can you post any pictures

It's probably a Dinse plug on the earth lead. The torch may use the same fitting or an adaptor but some welders use the gas fitting to carry power as well.

Table clamp = Return clamp or 'earth' clamp?
CK10-25mm connector = small dinse plug.
They're the same size and type for the +ve and -ve connections to make life easier when using MMA (stick) as, depending on the job, both polarities are used. Some machines have different sockets/connections for TIG, i'm guessing that it's less common these days because 1) it's more expensive and 2) it's not unreasonable to expect the user to know what they're doing or at least RTFM (a variation on reading the manual...)

TIG is virtually never done with DCEP (torch +ve/ Direct Current Electrode Positive) as around 2/3 of the arcs heat occurs at the + electrode i.e. it melts the tungsten unless a huuuuuge one is used

Yeah its the return that i am referring to.

I bought a pencil torch and it has a connector that fits into the return. For me it says that the pencil has a closed loop which in my mind isn't tig welding.

I will set it up as per normal and see if it's fine. If its not then i have a problem. I don't intend on connecting it. Just wondered why it has one.
