Citroen brakes sticking on

Greetings all, i am the lucky owner of a 2012 berlingo diesel. every so often the rear brakes stick on, usually if i dab the pedal the brakes come off, sometimes it wont play ball.
as i cant do my own work these days, i took it to a garage where they fitted new pads, today they didnt want to play ball, as it,s both rears i assume it,s something to do with hill start assist and not just both calipers sticking at the same time. anyone have any experience of HSA on these fine chariots ?.

Assuming they never stick first thing in the morning it Could be the master cylinder piston not fully returning, partially seized linkage or pivot? if the master cylinder does not fully return the fluid cannot return to the reservoir as it heats up and expands, so it expands and applies the brakes! on a few vehicles over the years I have had to either grind a small amount from the push rod between the servo and master cylinder (if not adjustable) or fit a gasket to space the master off from the servo! could also be a rear axle load valve sticking or out of adjustment??

thanks for the reply, snot brakes sticking cos of rust overnight, the pedal feels normal, as i said above, a quick dab of the pedal and the brakes release and it,s only rears sticking so i am thinking about the hill start thingy but cant find any info about it on tinterweb.

Hill start assist usually works by applying all the brakes, and only if you've came to a complete stop with the brakes.

When do the brakes stick on?

Is the rear brakes part of the handbrake set up.

MC, the brakes stick on at random times after using the brakes, i think mine only does the rears tho as the back dips if i try to pull away forewards and rises if i try to reverse, also the rears get hot while fronts stay mainly cold.
Ardvark, it,s not the handbrake sticking, the quadrants / cable all move as they should and a pat of the foot brake usually releases said brakes.
i would just replace the calipers but it,s odd both stick at the same time so am thinking what ever puts the HSA (the unit i cant find) on or the master cylinder are at fault, i dont want to start firing the parts cannon at it

HSA is done through the ABS/TC/ESP.
I've never driven a Berlingo of that age with it, so can't comment on how PSA implemented it, but isn't there a warning light to say that hill hold is applying the brakes?

I'd probably be running a full system scan to see if there were any faults stored, and run a datalist check to make sure all the related inputs (clutch and brake pedal switches probably being the main ones) are working as they should.

I'd be very surprised if your van has hsa.
It's more likely to be a caliper or the load balancing valve (if fitted) sticking.
The self adjust mechanism for the handbrake could be sticking.
This is assuming you have rear disc brakes.

Morning all, another soggy day in paradise .
there is no warning light to say HSA is on or even fitted , i. i have driven with it before and this feels pretty much the same, it has abs/tc/esp warning lights tho.
Turbo, it,s not calipers as it locks / frees both sides at the same time, ill have a tinker with the load sensor if it stops raining, thanks for your input peeps

Assuming there is only on flexible hose suppling the rear brakes it could be collapsing inside and acting like a non return valve.

truck doctor, there are 2, why make life simple ?
friend of mine popped round to say hello, i told him of my woes, he crawled underneath between showers, after some banging and swearing he declaired the person who replaced the pads was a good friend of Tonto, made some adjustments, a drop of lube and "see how it goes"...we shall see how it goes, if no good i shall invest in a pair of calipers as only the O/S was hot after this mornings run.

it will have a dual split braking system for safety so 2 independent lines including separate flexible brake hoses to each side often on a diagonal

if you got on citroen or peugeot servicebox ( think you would need to set up an account) and put in vin number it should be able to tell you whether you have hill start or not in the braking section
