Circular metal finish

I am wanting to put the circular type finish you used to see on old vintage car dashboards on a project i am on with.
This is a poor picture , but i think you can see what i am after. I was thinking about some kind of fibre disc in a pillar drill , and overlapping the circles . like shells laid on top of each other. This is hard to explain , but i hope someone will be able to help

What would be the best way to achieve this , is there a certain tool etc

Blackjack has a video on youtube on how to do it. I think he used wood for the tool

It's known as Engine Turning. One way is to use fine valve grinding paste on the end of a 1/2" diameter wooden dowel.

You can buy it already done on aluminium or stainless sheet.

Also seen it done with an old engine valve with wet & dry / emery cloth bonded on.

i used a small 3M pad in the pillar drill...

i then used a similar method to blackjack on his youtube video and used several pieces of 30x3 flar bar to create even "rows"

I once did it with some emery cloth rolled up tight and poked into some 15mm copper pipe. Ages ago now, but I think I sort of fluffed out the end a little to give a slightly larger sized swirl.

3M roloc pads in the pillars drill works a treat

Its called brushing or stippling and there are various ways inc above mentioned.
Any circular brush brass or steel or even flat rubber with grinding compound.
The trick is for diy not to get everything on line as any that are out will stick out like a sore thumb.

its called engine turning the best to use is wooden dowl in a pillar drill the size u require using grinding paste as the abrasive . consistent and cheap

I'd get some of those abrasive finishing pads and make an arbor for one. You'll get a nice consistent finish.

Thanks for all the replies fellas , problem solved. Now to find some dowel to try , but i can get hundreds of the roloc discs from work and believe it or not i never thought of using them DOH
