Chuck key for Clarke Pillar drill

Hi folks,

I have a Clarke CDP451F Drill Press in the workshop, got it almost brand new at a bargain price on eBay a few months ago. I havent used it yet as have spent the last few months sorting the workshop out and extending it etc. Only problem is that it didnt have a chuck key with it. This hasnt been a problem up until now as i havent had the need to use it, but now I will need to use it quite frequently so I need to get a chuck key for it. I have tried machine mart and the clarke website, which looks suspiciously like the machine mart one with no luck!

Does anyone have any idea where i could get a replacement chuck key to fit it? I have had a look for markings on the chuck but they havent helped in my search.

any help would be much appreciated

Hello gav,

isn't it a standard Jacob's chuck, so any engineering tools merchant should have them. You just need to know the chuck size.

Look for Clarke in the manuals section of the Links forum, the chuck key is listed as part no. DD16103010

cheers folks. Have had a look on the clarke service website and have had a good look at the manual for my model. Will be onto them on monday to arrange a new chuck key.

Bought one of those for my Clarke drill, didn't fit

For some reason the chuck keys seem to be a British Standard Imperial Chinese Metric size ( BSICM ) I've taken my pillar drill back to MM and several tool repair places yet none could supply a decent fitting key the nearest best fit was for an old AEG electric hand drill .

The original new key was even worse than the old AEG key

One day I'm going to take the chuck off and see if I can either replace it with a decent properly chuckeyed one or fit a hand tightening chuck.

I think that this may be the best option for me to take, as it seems alot easier, maybe costlier, to replace the whole chuck on the drill with a good quality item and then I can be sure that spares are easily sourced if required
