chuck adaptor

got 2 lathes a clarke cl430 which was my 1st one. got std 3 jaw chuck and an independant 4 jaw.
also got a southbend model c 9" which will hopefully be up and running end of week.
got several dif chucks come with sb lathe.

clarke can hold 4mt in headstock with chuck removed.
would it work if i made adaptor 4mt one end and 1.5" X 8tpi on other held in tight using drawbar so i can use sb chucks on clarke.

I don't see why not, provided you machine the register on the threaded part nicely.

it will not be as rigid as a back plate mounting and you will not be able to put a bar into the chuck so you'll need to work with a center for such jobs?

Could you drill it out and used a tubular draw bar if you wanted to get small things down the spindle?

it isn't threaded as large flange on it that chuck bolts to.

Well would you not be better making a plate to bolt on with a threaded noise to screw the chuck on?

Pce of 6" solid rd thick enough is a fortune.
Unless I can turn a cast blank backplate around..

If any of the sb chucks are back-plate type, get a piece of flat plate, cut it close to circular, drill to bolt onto clarke lathe, fix it up then turn it to size, bolt on spare chuck.
