chrome peeled?

what can cause new chrome to peel.
when I got it it looked fine but once the customer recieved it the chrome had started to peel on the tubings.
it is nickled and then chromed.
I've never had this before and the chromers haven't a clue only guesstimated ideas.
by the way its all new stuff no rust or chipped surface.

I get my steel tubing chromed in Newton ayecliff.
its the 1st time it has happened and that's why they're puzzled as to why it peeled.
the last lot of grab rails are perfect so its puzzling as to why just one peeled and not others.

most company no longer use copper coating due to some regulations on chemicals ,hence that is why a lot of chromers shutting shop.
it will be even worst come next year or so....more regulations is coming in.

blood EU are causing all the problems we're having and helping the ****** to prosper because they have no regulations imposed on them.

I've seen it happen, its a adhesion problem between the nickel and the copper, strip and redo is the only answer.

have u sent them the sample back to either look it over or re chrome it and see what happens

I've taken it back and thats why they are puzzled.
most of their work is other coatings and small amount of chroming.
I don't want to rock the boat because if I loose them then that will be me f**ked.
they won't do chroming for any one else other than companies.
they've had a lot of problems from other folks complaining about the finish etc
even though it was done cheaply.
to be honest I think the chroming is fine and for the price I can't complain.
for example I had a customer ask me I'll make a rack and have it chromed..
his eye popped out at the quote I gave him..
I quoted him £115 for a laverda folding rack,he got quoted £145 just to chrome his old one.my
I got a grab rail quote from a chromer in Durham area( since closed) a couple of years ago and the quote I got from them over the phone was £80.
the same grab rail I sell ebay and chromed for £65.

How on earth can they operate without stripping facilities ??? Don't sound much of a chrome shop to me to be honest.

they did do but one of their tank leaked and it was to far got to repair.
they are industrial type of business so every thing they plate is new.
no need for stripping.
how ever they are getting new premises built in Shildon so maybe they'll have all that.

Ah that explains the lack of copper, its all decorative they do.

Why is it, there are so many chrome platers that fill you full of ***** about the quality of their workmanship

the problem is that there are so few around now and they know it.
so you either accept their excuse's or take a run.
I've even tried to get folks to accept powder coatings but insist on chrome.
