i got a fine tooth blade will this be any good for cutting 40 x 40 box by 2.5 mm what sorts of speeds should i be cutting at.???
The blade speed should normally be slowed for harder materials. M/S should be fine at the highest speed. Tool steel will be at the lowest.
Feed speeds should be slowed for stainless steel, and for thin section (like the vertical bit of box), to avoid strain on individual teeth (in the latter case).
TPI is mostly affected by material size, so the thinner the section the more TPI required. However the main reason for haveing a coarser blade on thick section is that as the point loads on the teeth reduce, the saw cuts slower, so the job takes longer.
To be on the safe side, use a fine TPI, but be prepared to hang about if you're cutting thick stock.
If you're breaking blades then there is almost certainly another problem (like a misalignment of blade/ guides/ wheels, or the blade is wrongly tensioned. It's normally teeth that break under overloading, or go blunt through running too fast on hard materials. I've only ever seen horizontal bandsaw blades break, mostly through utter abuse!
