Choosing an AC DC TIG welder

Hi, I'm looking at buying an AC DC TIG welder.

Just for infrequent use at home, mainly automotive stuff so not looking to spend £1000+

I would have bought the Sherman 206P but looks like that's not an option anymore.

There's so many cheap ones I can't tell which may be OK. The Rohr WSME-200 looks like it's the style that's been on the market for ages, so was thinking about that.

I currently have a Thermal Arc 175 TE which I could sell to increase the budget, but if I bought a Chinese special I'd probably want to keep it incase the new one failed.

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Used a parweld in work xtt202 acdc no issues, put down some nice welds with it

Something like that I'd probably trust enough to sell my Thermal Arc.

I guess I'd need to order a pedal as well (didn't realise they came separately and cost so much for all they are). Never welded ally before.

The Stealth digi-tig 200 is about the same price, how does it compare to that?

Stealth digitig is a bit coarse on ac starts compared to the unavailable sherman 206p / and the Jasic which it is based on. I have both the stealth and the sherman. It does the job though plus good warranty and the interface is much larger and clearer.

The parweld will probably be a decent machine you won't need a foot pedal to start with, it just makes things even more confusing. You actually don't "need" a foot pedal at all, plenty of commercial ally welders don't use them.
