That's my gut feeling too, old stock - Irwin axed a *lot* of the record range as well when they took over.The photo shows the casting still has Sheffield England on it so maybe old stock or something?
I agree I would rather buy something Chinese direct than pay triple for the same thing.
But there are Oxford Welders and plasma cutters made here for example that are pretty good to say the least.
Plenty of other stuff made here as well. Henry vacs are a case in point. They are brilliant and a third the price of your fancy German or Japanese brands that often are no better or even worse.
I have several Numatic vacs, and an Oxford Mig. Thor hammers are also another excellent product still made here and available at a reasonable price (I have a hammer addiction). Footprint still make quite a bit in Sheffield.
Unfortunately most of the "Made In Britain" stuff I have is from companies that have long since closed doors or no longer exist apart from in name only.
Sad when you think about the sheer quantity of things we once made.
