chipped house brick-what to repair with

someone had drilled a gatepost screw hole close to the edge of a brick , then its slammed and knocked a chunk out

any suggestions what to use?

was thinking put the screw back in so its something to grip on , bit of pva sealer and some readymox mortor? i really have no idea , not wanting to chop the brick out really so what should i use ?

Have you still got the chunk? you could stixall it back on and disguise the joint with some brick dust.

I hesitate to run straight to GT for an answer, and do not want to tread on his toes, but saw this one recently, which at least could give you some ideas.

You will spend a fortune on the colours

I would not re-use the screw but grout in some stainless threaded rod.

Perhaps use a tiny drill (4mm is available in Bosch multi-material) and add an extra pin (stainless nail) at 90 degrees to the screw.

Milliput epoxy putty might work...it's not really an adhesive so would need some cunning.

There's also not a wide range of colours so need to be lucky on the colour.

Computers manage with only three (RGB). Commercial printers manage with only four (CYMK).

im not too fussed on colour , its out of site i can give it a dab of fence paint , more concerned i want something that sticks to whats there

They do enough colours that you could blend them I reckon and change the shade.

Also if you drill a couple of well placed holes and then force in the putty it will lock in place once it cures.

Definitely CT1 for sticking bricks back together. Depending on the size of the missing bit, I'd either make up a repair piece and stick it in or experiment with grinding up some brick dust and mixing it with CT1 to form a coloured repair epoxy.

Reinforce the post with a suitable bracket to somewhere more robust, and then as you say, slap some cement in the hole if it still bothers you. If not, in a few weeks, if the post is secure, you won't even notice it anyway.

Although that's not to say your other half won't . . .

sod that sticking any thing its only 1 brick dill out the cement and cement a new one in using a small pointing tool if you got a sds 18v drill with hammer only wont take 10 mins to knock out the brick and tidy it up

Have you an attached garage with brick on the inside wall?

If you have replace it. If not grind up an old brick of similar colour, mix dust into cement and repair damage with coloured mix.

no repair will work due to the screw and will fail again

its drill out the brick easily done by drilling the cement in different ways and replace again

youve found out why its best to use corner fastenings on a corner gate

I dob't think that PVA is the thing to use. It's SBR nowadays. PVA is water soluble.
