Just a quick Saturday night job to stop the chips going in the channels of the mill when using the vice. Made from pieces of washing machine panel.

Lay a bit of cloth over the whole bed, two small holes for the T bolts and clamp the vice down on that, at least the coolant will still get away.

I place wooden strips in the slots on my Interact for the area not in use, works for me and cuts down on the dreaded blow gun use.

I’ve put a swarf tray on the drip-tray under my lathe workpiece. It makes removal of chips so much easier. Can have a hole, or few, to drain any liquid.

Yes, I did that too, same material as the ones on the mill.

I recall a man I know who restores classic French cars, he has an Ajax universal mill and for all the work he does when a vice is in use he puts cling film over the exposed bed, not wrapped obv, just patted into place on the oily table. I suppose he just screws it up and dumps it in his metal waste bin, I will ask him next time we meet.

No, you need to use the air line to spray swarf and suds the length of the workshop, it’s more fun.


When you’re an apprentice anyway, until some old fella gives you a clip up the ‘ear ole for doing it.
