Cheater/magnifier lens for welding helmet

I finally gave in the last week and got some glasses Problem is I can't get on with them for welding.

What are cheater lens like to use? Main use will be for TIG and I'm concerned that the edges of the screen will become unusable because of distortion.

Thats it you are now officially an old fart. Its a pain in the arris getting used to reading glasses, you will no doubt step on one or two in the near future. I went and got cheater lenses they are great for me, well it does help when you can see what your doing really.

I find my 2.5 cheater lens great, just have to remember each time after using specs to set up the job to take them off before flipping down the helmet.

Where did you get your cheater lenses from? I've been wondering about some, looked on the web, but the only places that they are a reasonable price seems to be in the states. Also how did you fix them? Did you tape them in or are yours helmet specific?

I wouldn't be with out my 2.0, most go in the front if your helmet but some people put them in the rear.

I needed to start using glasses for tig welding a few years back,
my sheet metal guy showed me the magnifiers so the glasses only really get used for finding the metal splinters that i can feel but cant see!

I find about 1.5 magnification is good for me.

It's a pity more helmet manufacturers do not make them ready to take cheater lenses. I have mine fixed in front of the auto dark unit with a couple of thin strips of tape, Does the job perfectly well but hardly in keeping with a £200+ welding helmet.

Grade of vision also depends on what type of glasses Dave, no problem with single vision, I wear vari locals which can make cheaters a little more difficult to use, but soon get the hang of getting the right angle for a good view, I also found using vari locals with a cheater is much better than using a pair of readers and have to keep putting them on and off.
