thanks for pointing out the codes @My_Teenage_Self - I've just taken a punt on one as I need a new grinder for de-rustifying the truck and have been on the fence for a while regarding the fakitas but for £22.60 if it can spin a poly strip wheel, I'd say that's a bargain.

Thing is you still need a decent (Genuine) battery to get the most from them.

I have a couple of these grinders. They are fine for hobby stuff that I do. It is nice to be cord free when working. I tend to use flap discs and wire cup brushes on them. I leave the corded grinders for heavy work, i.e. chopping up flag stones and the like.

£120 for a proper vari speed genuine one is money better spent, 6 fake ones will still break and make you curse before one real one does IME

I havent used a grinder but theres nothing wrong with the brushless motor on my Katsu chainsaw.

I think I shall order one of these, which I'll use with the lidl batteries. Thanks!

I have a mix of genuine Makita 18V/LXT batteries from 2ah to 6ah, all nearly 10 years old and still working fine. I picked up a couple of used 6ah ones on a market stall, one works fine the other was been dead when I got it and it's still dead.

Milwaukee M12 batteries - 3 bought new 5+ years ago and all still work fine. The black "base & clip" moulding has worked loose on one of them, it can't fall off but it rattles when you pick it up. Glue fixed it for a while but it's failed again so just gets used as it is.

Why?

I tried one. The handle was garbage. The on-switch was even worse, very cheaply made and eventually failed due to wrong material used. The lock function fell apart and eventually locked up the whole grinder. In total it had about 2 hours light duty work on it, and I'd repaired the switch and lock pin twice.

The motor was ok, the vari speed digital control was a bit naff compared to the scroll wheel on the real one, but i could live with it. It was the build quality that let it down.

The real ones have done tens of hours for me and still going strong. They come with a good switch, good vari control, and lovely anti vibration handle.
Even the old brushed one i have still works well and its had a replacement set of brushes.

I just think you should buy a tool and expect it to last years and be a joy to use, not a pain

And it turned up today! (ordered on monday, which was a BH, so proper next day delivery).

It's exactly as per the picture, and strangely, came with a pair of (awful) gloves and a parkside cutting disk?!. It works well with a 1mm disk and flap disk, doesn't bog down (5AH genuine makita battery), and seems pretty hefty. If you blindfolded me, it feels like a quality tool TBH... Maybe,/maybe not makita quality, but better than most cheap tools I've had over the years.

I'll update if it dies, but i'm not a heavy user, and I'm on holiday for the next 2 weeks anyways

Run on 18V batteries? I don't recall seeing 21V Makita batteries but maybe it's nominal max voltage

Both get used,and i mean really really used,never let me down,although i will say on the 18v i do used 3rd party batteries
Also have a 115mm Makita 240v,dont ask me the model,but i've had it close on 30yrs now,damn thing wont die
