cheapest place to get 1mm sheet

i wasnt able to find any 1mm sheet in work to practice with and tes tthe migs low end capability...

i figure im going to need some sooner or later for car repairs either to my own, or my fathers so may as well buy a sheet and just coat it in wd40 every now and then to keep the rust reasonable during storage...

so, where is the cheapest place?

i have an order waiting to be sent for FH Brundles for angle iron and flat bar to finish ym BBQ with, if i cant find cheaper than them i will just add a sheet on to the order (a 2000x1000x1mm sheet is £13ish plus VAT from them)

Just ask if you can raid a fabricators skip, especially now the scrap value is so low.
Last time I asked I came away with 8 sheets of 1mm 750mm x 600mm.

might pop out tomorrow, i know a place that does a lot of marine stuff and structral stuff for fire escapes and stair cases...dont know if they will have anything that thin though...other than that the only other 'friendly' place is all ali and food grade stainless

i used to buy all mine from an agricultural repairs workshop but he has moved and i dont know where he is now

i can, if thats all i can get hold of then thats what i will use...

Yeah your local sheet metal workshop will be a lot cheaper than online.. Colleges will also have a scrap skip that they will probably let you grab some metal, don't often have 1mm though.

local college doesnt allow skip dipping...elf an safety an all that...they keep their scrap bins locked away in a shed

Laser cutters will always normally have scrap at a decent price. I often frequent laser cutting shops, the stuff they scrap will surprise you.
