Cheap metal shed for blasting cabinet?

I've got one of those tiny table top blast cabinets.

It's useless for virtually everything I ever want to blast as it's too small.


I'm wondering about one of those (or similar) -

Ive got a landrover axle to do, some wheels, some sills, and a couple of bulkheads. My air / will to live may not extend to the bulkheads, but I can certainly do the other bits.

I figure a few pavers to lift it up, or even sit it on bricks and scaffold boards, and some dpm on the floor, and "Henry" can probably suck up the blast media for reuse. I may even be able to just assemble the whole thing inside somewhere. Put a bouncy castle blower in the roof ducted to outside for dust removal. I would wear air fed breathing kit whilst working.


What do you reckon?

I reckon if you're going to be in a small enclosed space, inside a sandblasting cabinet (!), I'm gonna buy shares in air mask filters.

If you came up with some system for ducting air from out side you might live be ok, otherwise I would guess you'll be swapping filter every 2 minutes.

Needs some of this before the fan, one layer is enough, just bash it to clean.
Don't be mean to Henry it brooms up easily enough and sieve before returning to pot.
Watch the axle if on bricks visibility will be poor and you have 2 hoses to catch on it.

says 5.5, but, yes - i figured i would be hunched or on the floor anyway. but it was more as an example than that specific one.

I reckon a significant proportion of this forum is people saying stuff, and then people replying with comments that have been covered in the original question. And similar.

I would really want to have it inside, so am limited on height, as well as footprint, but ill check out various options if the idea is a go'er

By the time you have spent time adapting something you might me better off building from scratch with 0.8/0.9 galv sheets and a 25x25 box frame. You could make it fold up against a wall or make the walls stand alone for grinding shields if you have use for such thing. 2 sheets of 3000 x 1500 would make something a similar size of that wilko offering for about £200 in materials.

If you are breathing compressed air, something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/257190136619 could take the load of your compressor.

For collection of spent media. Put a Thien Cyclone Separator Baffle between the vacuum and the suction hose.
It'll save your vacuum filter clogging up as much and will separate the media from dist/dust.

I'd use a suit, and feed the airline, maybe a bounce castle pump, filtered in through the leg. It'll be constant positive pressure and keep anything from coming in. Michelin Man springs to mind, though.

I used an old caravan that had been dumped, stripped it out and used it as a shotblasting room, spray booth and finally filled it up with scrap metal and it was weighed in.

I'm thinking of using my spare* inflatable paint booth and cleaning up well afterwards when I sort the compressor out because I cant find anyone to blast a chassis. I have a air fed mask for spraying and I'd wear a hood over it that I can dispose of.

* I've got two because the seller sent me the wrong one initially and when I asked him to pay for the return of it, he just said "I've claimed off the insurance already, just keep it"...

Keep them separate, use the good one for paint.

Most proper sandblasting bays enclosures I have seen have clean filtered air piped to the operators helmet . A few used the battery pack on the belt filters but like you said they eat filters .

i used a 6x8 foot shed for years the walls and floor were lined with old conveyor belt used a proper airfed shotblasting helmet and just left the door open and worked perfectly did stacks of car wheels and motorbike frames and parts . made some good money from it doing it on a saturday morning every week still have the mobile comp helmet and blast pot and use now and then but can make more easy money just doing my job
