Cheap Lathe Light

Just back from the dreaded Ikea. I've been looking for a cheap light for my lathe and milling machine and found these nice little led lights that clamp onto things for £10. There are also longer stainless ones which have a variety of mounting arrangements but these are £25. For £10 I thought I'd get a couple and see how they go as they seem quite good but not tested on the lathe yet. The output from the transformer is 4v, 0.75a and 3w and it's all nicely sealed around the light so should be nice and safe to use. Some pics:

Just make sure that there is no flicker that can make the lathe look stationary.

led bulbs can give the strobe efect on rotating machinery the same as old flourescent fittings using magnetic ballasts. u could get leading and lagging powerfactor fittings to overcome it . the modern electronic hf ballast fittings have overcome the problem.so using the new flouros in conjunction along with led light s its sorted

What frequency do they work at do you know? Old flouros would be 50hz (line frequency) aren't they over here so 3000rpm and multiples of this but haven't a clue if that is how LEDs work. I have HF flouros in my workshop now though.

Yours is totally different, it's white and mine is orange...

White ones go faster, and the kickstand doesn't fall off

There won't be any flicker from these as the secondary is DC.

I have a couple of these (in black) with the solid bases. I unscrewed the base and fitted it to the bracket on my Bridgeport where the old machine light used to be ( a massive cast box with a 24V lamp that seem almost impossible to get hold of now).

Also bought a couple of those plastic chopping boards at £1 each to convert into a collet rack when I get round to it.

I bought a couple of these at Ikea a while ago, long adjustable arm so you can move it all over the place and it stays put - great for the lathe.
