Cheap helmets with Grinding Mode?

Are there any helmets around the £45-50 mark that have grinding switches or fliptop moduales?

I find the never ending swtich between goggles and welding mask quite frustaiting when your doing odd-jobs.

That looks pretty neat, but could I suggest that you just make sure that the lens / helmet is actually impact rated. I know that might sound daft, but it says that is has a grinding function that stops the lens reacting. It doesn't say in that ad that the helmet is 'grinding protection'. I have a Parweld myself and it's pretty good for the money. I would say that spatter does reduce the visibility / clarity VERY quickly, so if you are going to grind in it, make sure you buy the extra lenses and change them regulalry.

I'm off to have a look on the Parweld site to see if I can find anymore. If it's definitely impact resistant, I shall have one too!

EDIT. Just checked the tech sheet on this and quote - This helmet will not protect against severe impact such as bursting abrasive wheels and discs. I would say that against grinding sparks and stuff, it'd be fine, but it's not rated to fully protect you against the worst as a visor would do. That's why it's £45 not £245

Ahhh, urrrrm. Hadnt even thought about that, but yes, while it doesnt make it totally useless, certainly something to be very aware of.

The shell of that helmet is as strong as any face visor I've ever used, according to the data sheet that came with it, its made from High impact polyamide nylon, It also says that it requires 40 amps minimum to operate but I use mine with tig at lower currents than that without problems,

Just to add to FF's quote from the data sheet, it also says "use this helmet only for face and eye protection against harmful rays, sparks and spatter from welding, grinding and cutting.

I think that you'd be fine in the majority of cases. Spatter, grinding sparks, blimey, your eyelids will stand most of that. Really. But I felt duty bound to point this out. I am the national safety manager for a major UK company and I could not issue this to people as impact protection. I'd have no comeback at all against the manufacture in terms of standards if one failed. Do I think it would fail, against a fibre reinforced depressed center disc? Nah, unlikely. Would I chance it? Yeah, probably. Would I tell someone else it was fine to take my word for it. Nope. When you are not at work, it's a free World. Make your own choices, that's what I say. But do it with knowledge, not in ignorance. When you are AT work, there's some stuff about rules and the like.

health and safety police . im glad to see theres someone who can see both sides of the coin. im all for safety but sometimes it goes a little 2 far as said its personal choice at home as long as u know the risks
