Cheap brake fluid

Just wondered where the best place/supplier to get cheap brake fluid might be? Prices seem to be all over the place whenever I do a search online. Doesn't need to be good stuff, just cheap. It's never going to go anywhere near a brake system, so cheap and nasty is fine.

What is it going to be used for, does it need to be brake fluid?

Stripping/softening paint. Brake fluid is the best thing I've found upto just for the task which isn't detrimental to either flesh or lungs, and which isn't highly flammable either. If there's owt else with similar qualities on the paint softening front, that'd do too. I'm merely trying to avoid the likes of caustic and the other meth*? stuff, the name of which I can never remember.

How much is 5 litres of brake fluid gonna cost you? is it more than the paint stripper below?
I can highly recommend this as I've bought and use it on powder coated paint and works within 10 seconds of application, it contains the word you was looking for 'Methylene Chloride',which nitromors has dropped from the paint stripper and renders it useless for quick paint softening and bubbling lift.

Cracker price as the bottom of the page says free delivery in uk only? although that might not apply to hazardous chemicals?

Nitromors is about £10 for a litre and has lost the crucial formula,bodens has retained that crucial formula and is about £21 with inclusive of P&P.

Tell you its the good stuff.

What do garages do with their old brake fluid? do they use it for cleaning or dispose of it? if they dispose there's your free brake fluid.

Problem with that now days is its classed as waste so he will need a license carry I know it's ridiculous but the garage would also be braking the law so probably wouldn't give it away

But he has already stated that he doesn't want to use methylene chloride based strippers which is perfectly understandable knowing what we know now.

I think you might be crediting garage owners with more scruples than most have.

I did once ask that locally. It'd likely take donkeys to get a worthwhile amount with how oft they drain brake systems.

Cheers chaps. The methyl stuff would be quicker and possibly more effective Dan, but I'm simply wanting to avoid the aggressive stuff. Don't mind leaving something overnight, or even it taking a day or two though, so the brake fluid suits me perfectly.

Cheers Andy. Wasn't sure whether the factors might be the simplest/best option or not. It'll be a lot less phaff for me getting it from there than ordering online.

How about local breakers I think now they have to keep all the fluids separate when they defluid, so might have the odd drum hanging about ready for disposal?

Forget what I paid, but I got 5 litres from Euro's fairly cheap. Thought the listing was for 1 litre, but when I double checked it was for 5, and a blinding price.

Good idea, but I bet it's not that simple - be some red tape somewhere and most seem to be following the rules now. Too much to lose?

Hadn't considered asking a breaker. Might be worth having a drive over to my preferred delving yard and see if they can help. Worst they can say is no.
